Education Minister, RCN Graduate and Role Model Father

David Sengeh (RCN ’04-’06) is today today Sierra Leone’s Education Minister and we are proud to see him living the UWC mission in his personal and professional life. BBC News describes him as “a role model” while UNICEF declare that it is “great to see a leader – and a father – enjoying a family-friendly workplace. As COVID-19 disrupts life across the world, let’s ensure all working parents have flexibility, time and support to make the early moments matter for their children.”

We are proud to announce that RCN is now an official distribution point for coastal cleanup equipment: Local families and groups can get small and big bags and working gloves in different sizes from us for their own environmental actions.

As a part of RCNs Environmental Pillar we engage in a coastal waste mapping and cleanup program. Below are photos from last Sunday we have filled the trunk of our van with waste and mapped about 3 km of coastline.

In Memory of Amirkhan Batalov (RCN 2005-2007)

2020-05-07T11:49:57+01:00May 6th, 2020|

It is with shock and great sadness we got to learn from Amirkhan’s friends of his recent passing. Amirkhan graduated from UWC Red Cross Nordic in May 2007, and studied at Westminster College, graduating with a double major in Political science and International relations. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduating Amirkhan worked at Fulton state Hospital for almost a year, before returning to Russia in 2012, working as Senior Night Auditor in Combo Accor Hotels in Moscow. In 2017-18 he moved to Grozny to work at a local hotel.

There are many from UWC RCN who have fond memories from his time here at the College.  Our thoughts go to his nearest family.

Sakun Gajurel (RCN 2004-2006) has, together with friends, taken an initiative in support of Amirkhan’s family
