The Three Pillars

The UWC Red Cross Nordic Three Pillars - Humanitarian, Environmental and Nordic

At the heart of the design of our statutes is the intention that the main bulk of students are selected from ‘underprivileged and / or conflict-torn regions’ and that ‘functionally disabled students [are] integrated into the body of students’.The Statutes also outline a clear commitment to environmental and humanitarian education of young people in line with the 1976 testament of Christian Bekker, the man who gave his land at Haugland to the Sogn og Fjordane District of the Red Cross.

The College has therefore developed the three pillars of the College: Humanitarian, Environmental and Nordic – and they serve to underpin both the learning in the classroom and beyond.

A student voice

UWC has allowed me to gain a true understanding of what it means to be ‘one with nature’ and allowed me to gain an insight into the Nordic philosophy of Friluftsliv and its importance in the sustainability aspects of future developments
