The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme at RCN
To obtain the IB Diploma, students need to take one subject from each of six subject groups, three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). Within the Diploma Programme we offer the following subjects:
Group 1. Language & Literature: A
We encourage students to study their mother tongue and provide support for this through the School Supported Self Taught literature programme, or ‘World Literature’. This programme is delivered in one academic year as SL.
First Language A Literature (HL/SL): Danish / English / Norwegian / Spanish / Swedish – all taught in the respective language;
Language & Literature (English). All HL / SL;
Group 2. Language Acquisition: B or ab initio
Second modern language:
English B HL, Norwegian B SL, Spanish B HL/ SL, French ab initio SL, Spanish ab initio SL.
Group 3. Individuals and Societies
Economics HL/SL, History HL/SL, Philosophy HL/SL, Geography HL/SL, Global Politics HL/SL, Psychology HL/SL, Environmental Systems & Societies SL.
Group 4. Experimental Sciences
Chemistry HL/SL, Physics HL/SL, Biology HL, Environmental Systems & Societies SL.
Group 5. Mathematics
Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL, Mathematics Applications and Interpretations SL
Group 6. The Arts
Visual Art HL/SL, Theatre HL/SL.
Or another subject from Group 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 (See the Selection Sheet).
In addition to the six IB subjects, IB Diploma requirements include –
– completion of the Theory of Knowledge course requirements. This teaches you to reflect on areas of knowledge and develop critical thinking skills,
– completion of the Creative Active Service requirements – our extra-academic program,
– completion of an Extended Essay, a 4000-word research paper on a topic of your choice.
