Queen of Hearts

At the end of her visit to the College, Queen Sonja asked to visit the second year Visual Arts students’ IB Exhibition. She enjoyed viewing the students’ work very much and asked if Hala Al-Shawafi’s ceramic ‘Heart’ was available for her own collection – which was quite an honour for Hala. Edwin Gonzales, with whom she had spoken in the Silent House the previous evening, gave one of his final art pieces to Her Majesty as a gift and an expression of gratitude for her commitment to RCN students.

Our Royal Guest

2018-10-16T09:33:44+01:00April 8th, 2014|

Her Majesty Queen Sonja graced us with her presence on Thursday and Friday.

We felt fortunate that she was visiting as the early spring weather was at its finest. On Thursday evening, Her Majesty ate with students in the Kantine before visiting the Student Village and the Silent House. Then it was time for the cultural show. Rektor Richard Lamont gave a welcoming address (which you can read here), and then the stage was given to the student performers – to whose performances she gave a very warm response.

At the end of the show, Her Majesty said to the full auditorium,

I am glad that our work in setting up a Nordic UWC here in Fjaler succeeded. You can feel the warmth once you come to campus, and the College is everything we hoped it would be.

On Friday morning she laid the Foundation Stone for our new visitors’ centre – UWC Connect – to cheers from students, Haugland patients and visitors from Fjaler and beyond.

National and local media were in attendance: here is the report from National TV and radio station NRK. With another article here.

A day to celebrate.

Business & Enterprise

Meeting on the site of the new visitors' centreThe Business & Enterprise Section of the County Administration came to Haugland as part of their visit to Fjaler on the 8th April.

They received information about all four companies: UWC Red Cross Nordic, Haugland Rehabilitation Centre, HIFUS and UWC Connect. The companies at Haugland are of importance to the county strategy for growth, in particular with regard to its international dimension. The increased capacity to receive visitors at UWC Connect from 2015 will make it possible for businesses to have an international experience in their own county.
